I wish somebody had explained to me right after I built my spar-table that the nature of the covering is very important. What turned out best for me (learned after what seemed like hours of sweeping and vacuuming of chips and buffing of scratches) is some salvaged carpeting. And I tried a variety before I found some stuff that worked well. I recommend cut-pile carpeting only, medium length with no twist. The pile should stand up without matting down easily, yet be easy to vacuum
