  • Oshkosh Camping

    Hi everyone,

I've purchased an extra camping spot this year so that we have some extra room for the BH BBQ. Along with that, it also give us some extra space for camping as well. If there are any transient BHers who need a place to pitch a tent for a night or two, please feel free to reach out to me. I'm happy to have you with us! Donations for camping fees are welcomed.

We should be pretty close to everything, but I'll know on Saturday when we set up camp. I'll relay that information as well in the BBQ thread.

If there is any interest, let me know, either by PM or reply here.

    Two weeks and counting!

    Chris,

Help me understand the big picture regarding camping at Oshkosh. So, I am curious what you have been doing at Oshkosh this week. Are you volunteering in some way there? Or Did you go early and set up camp in order to get a decent spot?

Last year was the first time I camped there in about 10 years. I arrived on monday and was surprised how far my camp site was from things. This year I am coming on Sunday, but from the location of your site, I think I am gonna again be in the giggy weeds out by the highway. By the looks of your spot, I am guessing I am gonna be a long way away again.

A lot of people go early to claim their camping spot, they don't actually stay there the whole time.

Arriving on Sunday I would expect to be out towards the highway. I arrive on Saturday every year and am usually still quite far out.

perhaps we should set up the Bearhawk grapevine to identify prime spots available for fellow bearhawkers!

Since I camp with a large group of people, we go out a week early, set up camp, position campers, and get otherwise ready for the week ahead. Although I sold mine a couple of years ago, we all have (had) 30+ foot campers that would be a bear to position on the weekend before the show because of the population density. So we set up a week ahead when there is nobody there. Sadly, I've been at home working this week.

We pay for the privilege of having an empty spot sit for the week. But it's worth it (to us) to do so.

We aren't nearly as hard core as some, though. There's a group of people that set up in Paul's Woods (right up against the Vintage flight line/gate) right when Scholler opens in June. That's a $1000 camping spot, right there!

Thanks Chris. I got here about 6pm Sunday. The trailer dump station is pretty close to my camper. The bright side is that I have some space for now, its always a blessing to be with a group of close friends.

What about tent camping,Is that in the same area? That will be my lodging. Is there shady areas to pitch a tent, or is the Seaplane Base a better option for that?

Tents and RVs all peacefully coexist here. :-). While I love the seaplane base, mosquitos can potentially carry you away there. Their campground is pretty full.&
