I too used van's baffles. I do not know which set I purchased or if there were two options. The kit is invaluable in showing you what areas you need to be concerned with. Some of the pieces I just set on the bench and made copies of the shapes where I need and modified my own to fit our application. If you know where to baffle one could make your own but I feel the patterns that you receive will help you speed the process. They are worth the cost in my estimation just don't purchase and feel you will be able to trim and go flying. I had nothing to work from so they helped me greatly.

I started with Van baffle plans, I think for the RV4. They are not a perfect fit, but the changes are mostly on the outside perimeter, where they seal against the cowl. That's relatively easy to change. I saved the patterns for my baffles, and was thinking about arranging them into a blueprint like the ones Van sells (which were origionally done by a builder, I think). Anyway, if you are willing to go to the trouble to do this, I will send you the patterns. You would still need Van's RV-4 baffle plans, just to see how the pieces are arranged on the sheet and to help figure out what goes where.
Be advised if you use an ECI engine you will need to change the baffling a little along the bottom of the cylinder barrels. The ECI fins are tapered in that area, whereas the Lycoming fins have a uniform height.

I used the rv6 ones for an IO-360 because my engine was a Bob Barrows engine. It fit the engine well but did require some cutting and trimming to fit the cowling. I also had to add some aluminum at the nose bowl.

Thanks for info on the Van's baffels. I swollowed hard and purchased the Van's RV6 baffel set(290$). They are very well done. I was impressed with the detailed instructions. It's easy to see why there are so many RV's flying. We are building two patrols so they will be a great time saver.
