As I was again posed this question by a customer, I confirmed and verified that on a certified aircraft that is VFR only, we can use a single GI-275. This provides Attitude, Airspeed, Altitude, Vertical Speed, etc, etc, all in one 3" round gauge, back mounted in the panel.
Which, immediately made me think of all you guys building experimentals, and looking to keep a LSA or Patrol super light.... imagine a panel with a single round gauge in the middle, and perhaps an oil pressure and oil temp off to the side. Super light and super clean.
If you do the optional unlock you can have synthetic vision on it, and if you install a GTP-59 setup it will display outside air temp, wind direction and speed. (I always install the OAT just to get the wind direction and speed on G3's and stand-alone 275's)
