  • Road trip to Bearhawk HQ

My wife and I drove out to Oklahoma to visit my eldest daughter who is in grad school at OU. While taking a break from a huge "honey do" list at my daughter's house, we drove out to Fairview, Ok to meet the new stewards of the Bearhawk empire, Virgil and Mackenzie Irwin. The gracious couple took over two hours of their precious time to show us around the shop, give us a tour of the Five (N935MA) and the Patrol (from the fly8ma videos) and just talk Bearhawk and its future. The Five is a lot bigger than I was expecting.

Virgil is doing a ton of work optimizing both the frontend here in Oklahoma, and the backend in Mexico. Lots of new things in the works, some of which will be announced at Oshkosh. I will leave it to Virgil to talk details when he is ready.

I put in my down-payment for a Companion with Mark about a month and a half before news broke about the change of ownership. To say that I had an "oh crap" moment is an understatement. After meeting Virgil and Mackenzie and learning about what they have planned, confidence in my decision to join the Bearhawk family has been restored.

As for my project, Virgil and I came to conclusion that an angle valve 390 is probably the best option for my DA in Utah. This mirrors the thinking @UtahJay had when he chose his motor.

I'd like to thank the Irwin's for hosting me and my wife this past week.

    Matt

So exciting to hear! I plan to start my Bearhawk 5 build in about 4 years and am looking forward to hear the news! I’m hoping for factory seaplane door options and carbon fiber floor boards! Also would love to see dropped flap hinges for a slotted flap like the Maule or husky. A man can dream!
