  • Cowl and Baffles

I'm thinking that the order of construction for finishing this area should be baffles, lower cowl and then upper cowl last...what say ye?

I built my baffles last because they need extensive trimming to fit well inside the cowl.

I failed to mention that in doing baffles first, I wouldn't trim them until I did the top cowl...basically trim them in place.

Probably any order works but you would have to trim the baffles roughly before you could make the top cowl. If you already have the top cowl made you can use it to incrementally trim down the baffles. Latter seems less error prone to me.

I agree with you...cowl first, baffles last, thanks for your thoughts!

I mounted my nose bowl first using a variety of clamps and temporary rigging to hold it in the right position. Once that was in place I could lay a straight edge from the boot cowl to the nose bowl to visualize where the baffles, and exhaust, had to fit. I installed all of the aluminum baffles before I built the cowl. I installed the flexible baffles after. I should mention that I had to build my baffles from scratch so that added a level of complexity but it turned out well and wasn't very hard to do.
