I like the sight gauges on the tanks but I still plan on installing electronic senders for fuel quantity in the tanks. I was thinking about installing the capacitive senders but I did not realize that they indicate differently depending on what type of fuel you are using (Auto vs 100ll) and have to be re-calibrated with the different fuels. For you guys that have used the resistive fuel senders, which one did you use and how did you install them? Were you happy with them?

John,
I've used the Vans capacitive plate kit on the RV-9A and they work fine, but... When I built the RV8 I decided to go with the standard floats. The primary reason is that everybody can handle a resistive sender so you have a wide range of options for instrumentation. The capacitive is more limited. The floats have worked just fine and seem to be just as accurate as the capacitive. I stick the tank anyway during preflight so that I have a second measure of the quantity. The vansaircraft.com online store will carry the floats if you want to price them.David Edgemon RV-9A N42DE flying RV-8 N48DE flying Patrol #232 N553DE in progress ! Plans built.

Hi John .
I run only 100LL , The Princeton electronics capacitive probes were easy to calibrate in my MGL odyssey .
In the Patrol I am building now, I am just going with the sight tubes , I did not find them worth the extra complexity, weight ,wiring and build time . Besides It just feels better to see those last few drops of fuel sloshing back and forth. You do not have permission to view this gallery.
