  • 4 place Scratch Builder in Louisiana

Hey folks, I'm Steve from Lafayette, LA and I will soon be starting out on my scratch building journey. Does anyone know how long it takes for the plans to be delivered? I ordered a few days ago and cant wait to get my hands on them! I have been looking for a 4 place and was sold on the design after having a look around the Bearhawks at Oshkosh this year.

Funds are a little tight right now with a Wedding at the end of the year and a baby on the way, So I cant really justify spending thousands on stacks of material this year, what would be the best way to make progress without purchasing a lot of material? Making ribs etc? Most of my experience is with composite building, so I imagine just making the ribs etc will take me until the end of the year,

This seems like a great forum and hopefully I get to meet some of you over the coming years!

Hi Steve. I think the wing ribs are an excellent place to start. A bit of MDF or wood and a roll of aluminum will keep you busy for a long time. Aircraft spruce can roll aluminum up to .032, so it can be shipped via UPS.

Shipping confirmation email was relieved yesterday, so the plans are on their way!! Seems to have been shipped by Robert Barrows himself going by the receipt?

This weekend will be spent building a new pair of Chapter 1000 work tables. I scrapped my last pair as their were covered in epoxy etc from my Cozy MkIV build. Feels good to get myself active again!!

Bob's a great guy. He's relaxed, practical and down-to-earth, but he's an engineer and knows his $#!+. The fact that the designer himself is still around and actively involved, plus Mark Goldberg's support of the kits, all steered me heavily toward the Patrol. This is a sharp contrast to all the other designs out there with sketchy histories whose designers are unknown, not around, or don't care enough to call you back.

How do you like the Mk IV?

Well the plans are here! #1377 will officially start this weekend (assuming my ACS materials order arrives in time)

The MK IV is currently uncompleted, and I expect it to be on the back burner for a few years while I work on the bearhawk. It is fun to build, although doing multiple layups can be a little tedious.
i have flown in a few belonging to others and its a great aircraft, although nowhere near as useful as the bearhawk
