  • Future Builder in Indianapolis

    Hi All,

My name is Tom and I plan to start scratch-building a 4P Bearhawk sometime in the near future. I have a few questions!

1.) Are there any builders in the Indianapolis area whose projects I could visit/help with?
2.) Has anyone mounted the 4P Bearhawk on amphibs that is currently flying?
3.) How many of you have started on your projects with no previous experience building an aircraft?

Thank you all for the info!

      1. I am in Ky about 1 hour south of Lexington. Check out the Bearhawk map to see if anyone is building close to you. http://bearhawkbuilder.com/
      2. There are some Bearhawks flying around with amphibs but it is not the most common scenario just because of the short/rough field landing capabilities of the Bearhawk.
      3. I have no previous aircraft building experience but then again mine is not flying and who's to say it wont kill me once I get it going. I am getting close to skinning wings now.

Welcome aboard... It is a doable project providing you are not wanting an airplane to fly. What I mean is if you want to fly an airplane go buy one. Saw a Maule M7 low TT hours this morning on Barnstormers for only 60K. If you want to fly go buy that. If you want a project that will eat up every spare minute you have for the next 20 years then start building. Be realistic with yourself. If you think you can build it in 5 then you should realize it will probably take 10. Not trying to discourage but there are more uncompleted projects and kits than there are flying Bearhawks. It is a big project. The wing is straight forward but alot of it. I was looking at a Carbon Cub in annual the other day at the airport and that wing is so much more simple that it looked dangerous to me. But I am biased.

Come to Virginia this October to Bobs flying to take a look at his.

      Good luck.
