Strut attach bars and wing skins

How does one cut the wing skins to allow passage of the strut attach bars?
Are they slotted like the wing spar, or do you cut away the skin from the edge of the spar and around the entire area where the bars protrude?

I don't know what others have done but I slotted the skins like the spar flange. After fitting the skin, while it was clecoed to the skeleton, I just used a sharrpie to trace around the slot in the spar flange onto the skin. Then drilled a hole at each end of the slot and cut out the connecting material with a cutting disk in a dremel tool. Polished the slot edges to remove any stress risers.
