  • Ripping Spar Blanks

    Good morning everyone,

When you all cut your spar blanks from sheet, what technique did you use? I've seen references to track saws, routers, Olfa knives, jigsaws, among others. I'm pretty sure I'll be using a router with a 1/4" straight-cutting bit and a guide bar. But the electric shear would work if I can keep it cutting straight. Table saw is out for this, I think, because of the unwieldiness of trying to maneuver a large sheet through the machine, as well as it sliding under my mediocre fence.

How did it work out for you?

I found a local fabricator with a 12' sheet metal shear. No waste, and not that expensive.

Homebuilt track saw. Loved it. Edge barely needs dressing
