  • Capstrip hole help!

I made an error while drilling my capstrips. I marked the smaller attach plate area at the end for no drilling. But I completely forgot to mark the capstrips where the larger plate overlaps. I now have 2 holes in my capstrips that don't match the larger attach plate. The centre of the hole nearest the end of the attach plate is 7/32 from the edge. The photo shows arrows pointing to where the holes should be when matched to the attach plate.

I'm going to have to treat this as another learning experience. Have ordered a few more capstrips. Ouch. Experience is expensive and very valuable.....

could you not just move the attach plate in to match the holes ?? Would shortening the wing by 7/32" do any harm ?? I`m not an engineer -just thinking out loud , run it past Bob see what he thinks

***assuming this is the first set of cap strips to be drilled and you can match drill the other spars to suit ! **

I believe this topic has came up before that even in the plans there is not minimum edge distance for that last rivet in root attach plate. I'd call Bob before you scrap anything. If I remember correctly the plans measured out at like .250 for E/distance and a minimum 2D is .3125

EDIT- I didn't notice the holes are offset. May be cheaper to re-make the root attach plates than the cap strips.

If the attach plate can be replaced and back drilled from the existing cap strip and web holes, that will be the most economical solution. With Bobs approval of course.
          Good Luck
