I went with 3.25” spacing. Could have been less if I had started with the prop control slightly closer to the center, but I have big hands. . I’m sure 2.5” will work nicely too. I’m happy with mine since everything fits the available room on the bottom of the panel nicely.

I can’t stress enough that it’s critical (and I found difficult) to avoid running one of the vernier cables into the “v” brace tubing. It’s a non-issue if you use space higher up on the main panel like Spinning Wrench did, or if you use a sub-panel below the main panel (watch the flap lever though).

The image shows how the farthest distant vernier fits easily above the “V” brace where it’s lower, close to the corner. Conversely, the closer vernier projects right into the middle of the brace a couple of inches from the end of the rigid part of the vernier. If my spacing was any closer, I would not have enough flexible cable before the “V” brace for smooth operation, hence the 3.25” spacing. If my instrument panel wasn’t not tilted forward at the top (or if it was tilted more) the mixture cable would have had more clearance. I might put AN aluminum nuts on the vernier barrels in front of the panel to bring the end of the rigid barrel a little farther from the steel tube if needed.
