I was very lucky last Monday to meet Jon Battson, and Jon kindly took me for a flight in his Bearhawk over North Canterbury, NZ. He spent quite some time showing me many build details and patiently answering my questions.
I’ve read and researched a lot about the Bearhawk but there’s simply no substitute for experiencing it firsthand.
The performance was nothing short of amazing - he demonstrated a short takeoff and landing that I wouldn’t have thought possible had I not seen it. Jon gave me control in level flight - it had very mild mannered flying characteristics - although I’m sure it’ll take me a lot of practice to get my taildragger experience up and be anywhere the competence level that Jon has, but I do look forward to the learning curve.
