Hey Paul,
I had similar problem the first winter I flew the BH in our Canadian winter temp.
Oil couldn’t get to 180 (max was 165) and cht between 250-275
My solution was:
- add a valve to control the air flow to the oil cooler. It works for fall/spring time temp, but not sufficient below < 0C...
I’m planning to arrive Saturday. I’ll be camping under the wing of my BH4, in HBC campground. I’ll let the group know where I’m located when I arrive. You’re welcome to stop by anytime.
See you all.
Look for a red/white taildragger…
Mike.

Hi James,
Are you referring to the throttle/mixture bracket. This is included in the FWF kit. Some photos of my installation. Mine is a O-540, but I used the O-360 bracket, with some modifications. Works fine for the last 4 years…hope this help.
I have installed a similar valve couple years ago, as my oil temp was on the low side. It Works very well in spring and fall time to control the oil temp, but not sufficient for our Canadian winter. I control the valve with a Bowden cable. Also use it in summer at higher altitude, to reduce...
I bought an Aero Classic tailwheel tire (10x3.50-4) about a year ago and i just discovered that it now has small sidewalls cracks and it shows some cracks along the tread grooves. Tire has only 80 hours, 70% grass/gravel, 30% asphalt. The original tire i had before was a Speciality Tires (STA)...
I initially raised the aircraft off the floor, but it wasn’t enough to get the “extreme†condition.
Instead of pushing my luck with an unstable condition, I decided to disconnect the fuel line from the carb, and connect the line to a temporary aluminum tube. I raised the tube up to a 5 gal...
In my case, cable wasn’t actually rubbing, but very close to the strut. In order to prevent any chafing,I installed a V shaped piece of nylon...Mike.
When I did my w&b, I took the time to measure the location of the pilot seat, passenger and baggage space. Measurement was done with a plumb bob, with the airplane level, datum being the wing leading edge.
See attached photos and raw measurements.

robcaldwell to help you visualize the vertical installation, refer to this PDF drawing from Vans, for the RV7/6/9. I basically used the same approach for the vertical hanging.

Hey Rob,
This is what I did.
In the first and second pictures, you see the two horizontal hangers that connect to a collet clamped around each tail pipe. The bottom horizontal hanger is attached to the bottom bolt which secure the collet . The top horizontal hanger is attach to a vertical...
