    Brake Caliper bolts

A little too late for you but I managed to get four bolts in my brake mount. The two AN4 bolts I tapped into the backing plate as well as adding nuts. Hopefully this will keep things from moving around.

Engine and prop control knob placement

For what it’s worth this cluster of engine controls in my panel worked out perfect for placement and distance between controls. Everything is mounted on a sub-panel cutout which allows for easy removal.

    Baffle seal around flywheel

Here are some pics from the front of my Patrol. If you order the VAN’s RV-8 baffle kit you need to add some to the height to make it fit a Patrol cowl. I also created two custom fiberglass pieces which provide a nice ramp to the baffle material mounted on the front cowl.

    Patrol Airbox

Turns out an airbox from a 180 HP Aviat Husky is an absolutely perfect fit on the Patrol including the angled air inlet connection for carb heat. These boxes occasionally get changed out if the bushing are worn but that’s an easy repair for us home builders. The airbox is the best I have ever...

I purchased the Dynafocal Engine Ring Mount from Aircraft Spruce and designed a mount for my Bearhawk that gives the proper 1 degree down as required by Bob. Sandblasted the ring mount and here it is tack welded together. The folks at VR3 in Canada cut the tubes per the design. The fit up and...

    Can’t get engine mounted

I have been trying for two days to wrestle my engine into the mount but the misalignment is just too great. It behaves as if the bushings are too thick. I have tried three different techniques as outlined in the RV builders forums but with no luck. Part of the problem may be the large weld...

    Welding

For those interested in welding on their Bearhawk project I see the EAA is offering a two day TIG welding workshop in Oshkosh Nov 12-13. I have attended a number of workshops there and find them a great skill builder for something you are not familiar with. In particular the composite workshop...
