Rob I saw your video. Another nice one. My problem is different than yours. Here is the picture from the kit builder manual. I am guessing that is the original 172 windshield. There is no way I can move my windshield that far forward.
I can compromise and move the windshield 1/2" forward, the gap will be less noticeable. That causes another problem (without lots of windshield trimming) where I have very little room between the front edge of the windshield and the firewall. With the windshield all the way to the rear I only have 1 1/4", but that is enough. Move it forward 1/2 inch and that cuts it down 3/4 inches. Maybe a little tight for fiberglass, but I suppose I can make it work.
The extra trimming would be mostly at the leading edge of the windshield,tapered down to less as it goes back. The whole windshield would rotate lower and give me more room for the flange.
