  • polyfiber iron

I have had poor luck obtaining a good quality iron for shrinking the polyfiber fabric on my bearhawk project. I have ordered the one recommended from ACS and am not impressed with the quality. Can anyone direct me to a good quality iron for this purpose? thanks.

I just used a good quality (get what you pay for) household iron - the same one I had been using on my shirts for years. After I was finished, I just cleaned it up and I am still ironing shirts with it. There is no substitute for quality!!

You want an iron with a decent thermostat and element, they are the most important feature -, ability to get hot enough, and to hold a [kinda] constant temperature. Cheap ones [often physically lighter weight ones] won't get hot enough in the first place, and won't hold their temp well either. You need a heavy metal/ceramic base and a heavy internal heating element. Normally these ones cost more.

When I covered my airplane I did all kinds of research and bought one of those heavy duty old fashion type irons, it would not get hot enough and totally sucked. I brought it back and got a cheap $10 iron from Target, it worked great, heated up quick, stayed hot, and I could set it easy to the different temps. I think it was the cheapest one they sold at the time.

I've been considering Oratex for covering my BH. Apparently to apply it properly you need an iron with very accurate temperature control. In one of their videos they recommend these:

I'm not sure if they would be good for Polyfiber, but I thought I'd mention them.
