This is not the way to build a "bush " plane!!

Sharing a "mistake" so somebody else doesn't make it, although I cannot imagine anybody else doing this. I always have stated that there isn't anything i can do to my plane that some man hasn't already done. But I think I may have topped that on this one. ( except for the fact I wash't alone ) In hind sight, we could have done 100 different things to have avoided this. The first fuselage came out of the "barn" just fine. It's a slight down hill and a bit of a turn to get between the barn and the bushes. Figured it went Ok on the first one, should be Ok for the 2nd--1st mistake. I held the landing gear and Dennis had the tail. I felt gravity and was ready for it, but at some point it overcame my ability. Had to step aside or get run over, looked up and Dennis is in the blackberry's and N241BP is on a joy ride down hill. The right tire got caught up in some tall grass next to the bush and it pulled her right in. There were stubby woody things under the belly, huge bigger than your thumb blackberry branches shoved into the door, over the top, into the windows and all along the side. You couldn't touch it for fear of more scratches. Took me over 2 hrs. snipping woody things and blackberry branches, piece by piece. As it turns out, Dennis had more scratches than my plane. In fact there is only one teeny tiny scratch that took paint off. I did more damage than anything here when I slipped with the pop rivet gun. So if you think you are having a bad day, and you've made mistake after mistake, know you are not alone and it could always be worse. D.

Doug, I like your way of thinking better than mine. Not what comes to my mind when I look at these photo's. Another learning from a mistake--A guy down in RBG decided while waiting for the DAR he would do some taxi testing of his newly built Murphy Rebel. Apparently somebody mentioned the need to "burnish" the brakes. His taxi test ended off the runway and upside down. It's a fact new brake pads need burnishing, but high speed is not necessary. D. Pardon my mistake. The Murphy Rebel did not go upside down. He collapsed a landing gear, doing a fair amount of damage and clipped the wing tip.

Yikes! Thanks for sharing, and I'm glad it didn't turn out worse!

Your first off-airport adventure! How exciting! I'm glad things didn't end up badly. And, if you think about it, you finally got around to trimming that bush you've been looking at for far too long.

Another mistake, or maybe not, we made was installing the rear window frame in the Patrol kit. Ours are flat side out and bump side in. I like it, so I guess it's not a "mistake", but was wondering what are other's doing??

Also as mentioned, be very careful with that darn air rivet gun. It's got a kick and if your pressing down with even a little bit of side pressure you'll get a big OOPS!! D.

So true about the rivet gun! For me, that usually happens on the last, of a long line of rivets....

So you ground looped your plane before you mounted the wings? Probably good to get that out of the way. And thanks for sharing, it sounds like something I would do.
