Good info guys. Ya John, lots o' folks don't seem to realize the stainless steel to aluminum potential. Thanks all! Mark J
Mark, I have seen a lot of corrosion with people replacing zinc plated sheet metal screws with stainless sheet metal screws on interiors of planes. You add a little salty moisture and the corrosion will spread. there was a cherokee I was restoring in Seattle that had 1" rings of corrosion around almost every little #4 sheet metal screw on the interior. Where they had left the zinc screws, the screws has rusted but the AL was fine. there was another electrical problem I was chasing, someone had used some stainless screws to hook a ground wire up to the AL body. corrosion had started and it was creating a bad ground. This is where it is also critical to use good bounding techniques for ground wires. Some people use a sealant when bonding to keep the moisture out and prevent the galvanic action. The table here is a good chart I like to see how compatible metals are to each other.
