  • Exact Balancing of Controls

I was wondering if anyone had good knowledge, or better than the little I have, about balancing controls? Both of my elevators after covering are about 2-2.5 oz. heavy on the forward arm, tail being lighter. This is balancing directly on the hinge tube and not within the hinge itself so there is no resistance. From what I understand, if it isn't balanced at the center, it is best to have it heaviest forward of the fulcrum. Any thoughts out there?

Heavy forward of the hinge line is the proper
“ balance “ the control surface should exhibit
a tendency for the leading edge mass to head earthward. We are not trying to achieve a balanced condition but one which is positively weighted forward of the hinge.

Perfect! Thanks. Now if I can achieve the same with my ailerons. They, and the flaps are the only thing I have left to cover and paint.
