Concerning my hangar, I have a less-than-pristine load-bearing joint on one corner. (Actually, it's a shared corner, being where the main hangar and office addition meet. The area in question is on the office side, which carries a smaller load than the hangar side.) The attachments show the C-channel red iron vertical beam which was cut during construction. Apparently, the cut was in anticipation of some sort of clearance issue, and now just looks ugly. (Note that there are two sets of four-bolt groups -- one group to attach the vertical to the hangar (two bolts of this four-bolt group are showing in the photos), and one group to attach another sloping C-channel to this vertical (no bolts showing in the photos; they are below the first bolt group by about 8"). Not sure if it's obvious, but the notch in the end of the vertical beam includes an additional vertical cut further into the beam by about 1" (left side of the notch). A similar cut/notch is on the other side of the vertical.
Should I be concerned?
