  • First time for Airventure

So I've talked my wife into letting Airventure be our family vacation this year. We will be arriving on Sunday night and staying till Thursday. Any advice on must see or do's for a first timer? We will be camping at Scholler with the kids (11,13,15). Thanks W Vaughan

First, don't try to see everything. Second, let the kids decide what to see. There will be days when they are tired and want to go back to the campsite and relax. That's when you go see the things you want to see. It's waaayyy too much walking for kids and wife if they aren't as interested as you are. Definitely go see the night airshow. Everyone loves that. This will keep everyone happy and wanting to come back.

There is a section called "kidventure" located at Pioneer Airport which is on the grounds to the northwest. There are plenty of educational activities and are pretty good as listed here. http://209.83.103.21/attractions/kidventure.html

We had a lot of fun watching the ultralights taking off and landing. Some of them look like nothing more than a lawn chair with wings. Also take them to the seaplane base as well as the museum. If you can afford it let them take the shirt helicopter tour over the grounds. Eric Newton - Long Beach, MS http://mybearhawk.com

Just be aware that they charge you for the bus ride back to the main airport if you go to the sea base. I believe it was $3 per person.

I volunteered at the Kid Venture one year and it was pretty neat. It was set up sort of like a college program for the kids, where they would walk around to stations with different learning topics. If they complete them all, then they get a certificate. That program would be good for a day's worth of time if you wanted to spend that much there.
