Engine storage

I have taken advantage of an opportunity to acquire an engine for a very good price. I won't be needing it for a few years yet, so I am asking for anyone who has experience of storing engines what is best practice. I have Tony Bingelis' book that describes what to do, but I am just checking to see if there is any other input as to current methods that will prevent me expensive pain when I come to use the engine! It is an IO-540.

I got my engine used and stored it for a couple of years in my garage. I just turned it upside down and filled it with about 5 gallons of the cheapest (which is not so cheap anymore) oil from the local auto parts store. I filled the cylinders with oil too.

If it's literally full of oil, why upside down.......?
