  • Engine for the LSA

For those building the LSA, be it kit or scratch. I would like to get your input on the engine I am considering.
I have limited knowledge of these engines and want/need to learn as much as possible.

I am looking at the C85-12 for power for a few reasons:
    Want a starter.
Lighter than the O200,(from what I've read).
Can be built to produce an honest 100+HP

    Any information is greatly appreciated.

I've learned a bit more the past few days.

Information about the C85 series and O200 is all over the board on the net.

Called a friend who installed a C85-8 on an Avid with his own starter set up and his weighed in at 225lbs counting engine mount and everything attached.

I'll be looking into the O200 and ways to lighten it up, will hopefully find someone who has accurate weights.

I hope to collect good data and share here for others.

My O-200 with lightweight 12 amp alternator, B&C starter, carb, and Bendix mags weighed 200 lbs even. No engine mount or exhaust on at the time. Mark

Great Info Mark, I want to settle on an engine soon so I can start searching for a good deal well in advance of needing it.

If youget a chance, give Bob Barrows a call. He has been building these modified or souped up C-85 engines and knows quite a bit about building them light but powerful. You might want to give him a call and pick his brain for info.
