Regarding recharging batteries, in my non-electric Experimental cub I heard about a Kubota dynamo (generator) that was small, light, and cheap. It cost me way more to find a prop that would start up in the airflow, but once figured out I installed it on the cabane and it worked like a charm. Kept the battery fully charged with constant use of a GTR200 comm and an iPad.
Another fellow made a mount for the same unit on a float strut.

What prop did you find that ended up working for you?

That one shown. It’s a bow thruster prop, I’ll have to look up the number. Vetus brand. Due to the generator being a dynamo the force required to start it turning is higher than required to keep it turning.
I started with a bunch of two bladed trolling motor props, which worked if I hand started it. But the multi blades self start about 40 if I recall and would continue until less than 10 mph. Plenty of amperage, small regulator I mounted under my seat.

      Peter,
Thanks for the info on the prop. I'm considering keeping my LSA "non-electric" but have a few years before I'm at that point.

Does anyone have any knowledge of, or experience with charging light weight batteries such as the Earth-X or Oddessy batteries with a solar charger? I am primarily interested in maintaining these batteries while the aircraft is tied down after a flight where minimal power has been used for...
