Is anybody else out there flying with a Whirlwind 284 propeller??? I seem to be having a hard time finding a place to do the required inspection on mine and wondering if anybody else has tried.

Hi Donna, have you been in contact with WhirlWind/Hartzell yet to see if they ever produced an overhaul or maintenance schedule? If the prop shops you've contacted don’t have any info on the WW props, you can tell them the hub is basically a 200 series McCauley with a lot of metal removed. The seals, bearing etc are the same, from what I was told. When they installed their blades in the hub I sent them, they used an overhaul kit from McCauley.

Yes, we have contacted Whirlwind and they never called back. American propeller hasn’t really expressed much of an interest either. The shop in Washington said they didn’t work on Whirlwinds. Trying to find someplace close, but my prop has some hanger rash and needs repair, so maybe back to JDW in Ohio. Sounds like he might have a clue and shipping cost doesn’t out weigh quality, for me anyway. Thanks for your input though!

Jay did amazing work on my RV whirlwind.
It took me a while to find him and shipping was inconvenient but I was very happy at the end.
