Is there an available list of raw materials that's required for plans building the Bearhawk LSA? For example, lists for aluminum for the wing and fittings, steel tubing and sheet for the fuselage, and hardware. I would be interested in estimating the present cost for material needed to build this fine airplane. Thanks, Mervin Friesen

Raw Materials List?

Bob doesn't send a materials list with the plans. I have heard at least two good reasons for this. One is that the list is going to vary depending on how you plan your cuts and usage. The other is that a builder who makes his own list is going to know what to do with the material once he gets it. So you won't find an official listing, but you might be able to talk another builder into sharing numbers with you to get an approximation. Have you considered the kit? At first glance it seems like a lot of money to buy one, but there is considerable value there for the amount of work that is already done.

You can look in the patrol section I posted up pictures of the nested ribs needed I would think the LSA would be close enough to guestimate how much you need. I'd guess 4 4x8 sheets of rib material (guessing .020 on the lsa?) would get you a long way before you needed anything more. If you had a way to send me a dfx of the wing rib I could nest them for you.
Jared brings up a good point. The ribs are very time consuming and one of the best deals you could buy. I chose to build mine but if I ever built another plane I would buy them pre-made.Dan - Scratch building Patrol # 243.
