  • Patrol flap hinge lugs

The Patrol flap and aileron hinge bearings are inserted into lugs that are welded onto the hinge weldment. Can someone tell me what the purpose is for the small 3/16 hole that is near the centre of the lug?

If you are building your hinges - on the patrol- double check the welding jig dimensions that are in the booklet that comes with the plans. I think that there is a dimension that needs to be changed.

As to the hole I have no idea, but I guess it saves weight. I myself made them out of 1018 cold rolled steel since I never found a source for 1020 steel. AviPro sells the bearings at a reasonable price.

I wondered the same thing after making these parts.

If you do not drill that hole like Bob recommends - when you weld them up you will see why the hole is called for. Mark

I wondered if it was for welding heating....
