Do we have enough data out there on the the prototype and first kit built angle valve model 5’s to draw conclusions on the correct oil cooler size? What little data I have seen shows really good CHT’s but the two data points I saw showed 210 degree oil with 327 CHT and 217 degree oil with 350CHT. Those values are on the high side of what many target for oil temps, granted they are less than Lycomings redlines. Just trying to see if there is more data or any more tweaking thats been done and is their a specific oil cooler recommendation for the model 5 with angle valve engines.

Dennis, the prototype Model 5 started life with a 3" scat tube taking air to the oil cooler. It was not adequate. I messed with it increasing to a 4" opening and 4" scat tube. In addition I remade the aluminum "plenum" that the scat tube attached to so the air could spread out better onto the full face of the oil cooler. Those two changes helped the oil temps on the prototype come down.
As far as which oil cooler - there are options. I like the Aero Classic series and can help you buy one since they have us as an OEM distributor. Get in touch and we can discuss. Mark
