Hi, Just wanted to introduce myself.

I just bought a complete/flying Bearhawk 4 place after 20 years with a Super Stinson, and excited for the new plane. I am sure I will have tons of questions as I did not build and new to the Bearhawk. I have 16 hours in it already and thus far enjoying it!

I live in the CO mountains and fly backcountry so it seems to be a good fit!
    • I already need to address the flap handle situation with the reach-hoping EZ-flap has a solution, or one of you! backcountry shortfield technique is for me to leave flaps zero for least amount of drag and pop them at rotation and reaching down to that level is not operationally safe. (please don't share your opinions on the technique as I am not interested).
    • I also require a tubeless tailwheel (ie babybushwheel-not MATCO) as I operate in somewhat rough and cactus prone areas-can't afford to puncture a tube. it has a bearhawk tailwheel on it now and it looks like I have to swap for a Scott 3200.

any advice is appreciated on those two topics!

Hi and welcome. Has you flap handle got "ramps" cut into the curved part that allow you to pull flap without pressing the button ? Just a thought and easy to mod, makes pulling flap a little easier.

Hi Nev! Thanks for the comment. It does have the construction that allows me to pull the flap handle to the second stop without pushing the button but I cant even reach it without being dangerous. I assume some have constructed some sort of "grab bar" to be able to pull without bending way down?

You're right, on these models it sits very low on the floor. Some have welded a grab bar onto the flap handle and later models have the entire flap handle mounted higher.

When I read this I thought about the durability of the tire as the data point that would make it resist a puncture. I think I put on an 8 ply tire on to the standard tailwheel (8" OD 4.00x4 tire) I saw cracking in the treads of my other lighter weight tire...old one could have been a 6 ply tire.

good thought! I did just discover that Shock monster (TK1) has a good solution as well to run a Baby Bushwheel with their advanced suspension setup.
Working...
