So, im going to scratch build a Bearhawk 4 place from plans. My name is Gary Wallace and i live in Waterloo, ontario, canada. Im 49 years old and have been flying since i was 18, my first flight being an accidental solo in a Lazair ultralight with no previous flying experience other than radio controlled aircraft. Really! I have been hooked ever since. I flew ultralights for years, then a corben baby ace that my father and i resored, and i finally decided i would upgrade to a private pilot licence and decided on my next project. I chose to restore a 1947 cessna 140 basket case in need of so much work that i also decided to reregister this project in the amateur built category here in canada. This project was very extensive and took me 8 years working only through the winter months primarily on my own. There was a lot of aluminum skins replaced on the entire project, covered the rag wings, painted the entire plane using the poly fiber system with the aerothane paint.. I finished this airplane in july of 2013, passed final inspection, test flew it myself transitioning from a corben baby ace, with no time sitting in a 140 other than in my garage! what a thrill....all went great with no surprised..i have accumulated 240 hours in the last year and a half on this airplane even with it sitting in the hangar for four months last winter....and it is now sitting for the winter again here in ontario. So....i told myself i had enough of this building and i wont do that again....till the itch returned. I did some homework and decided that the bearhawk looked like a perfect scratch built project, something that i could start off with few materials and keep me as busy as i want to be. I received my plans yesterday, and am almost complete with the main rib template..its almost time to order a few sheets of aluminum and start making a lot of noise...i plan on working away a bit at a time as my wife put up with a lot the last number of years as far as many many hours of mine spent in the garage. Thats what i plan on anyway! So...thats my story in a nutshell....im sure i will have many questions as i did on the cessna 120/140 website during my extensive restoration of C-GOYY. I look forward to spending more time on this website and in my garage...and wish everyone all the best with their own projects....talk soon...Gary Wallace

Hello Gary, I saw your 140 in the RAA Recreational Flyer, very nice work. I am just starting on a Patrol. I live in Kitchener and am often out at
Gary's hanger on Wednesday mornings. Nice to have someone near by that is also doing a scratch build.
