  • Wing skin overlap direction

I have an issue with the edge of one of my wing skins (I won't bore you with the details why.) and I'd like to know if it's OK to have one of the skins overlap differently. The first skin at the wingtip is the one that I would like to sit underneath the second skin, rather than on top.

    Opinions please...

I overlapped my skins opposite of plans. I called Bob before I did....he had no issue with it.

      That's good news. Thanks!

I would suggest it's preferable to lap the skins such that water doesn't run into the lap joint and into the wing when the plane is parked outside. The paint in those areas wears away, and water ingress leads gradually to corrosion.

Yep Jono - it bugged me sufficiently that I recreated that wing skin. All is right with the world again.

Not a cheap exercise - but you'll feel much better about it for years to come!
I guess that sheet will do nicely for the boot cowl or a floorboard (etc.)
        Working...
