I took the short-form TIG workshop at OSH on Saturday afternoon. It was a full class, but I managed to get my hands on a torch and weld both aluminum (AC) and 4130 (DC-) with a Lincoln TIG-200. I'm totally hooked! It felt completely natural, and in just a few minutes I was able to turn out some very nice welds. The foot petal made it really easy to control the heat when you needed. And it's a 110V/220V rig as well, which makes it nice.
They has a show special that was $200 off that particular rig, along with a free set of gloves and 10 pounds of filler material. Sadly I live in the "tax zone" of Wisconsin, so I had the pleasure of paying sales tax on it, bringing the total back up to $1399. So I jumped on it. Should be on my doorstep on Friday.
