  • Steel deburring

Hey Guys, when deburring steel (4130 or mild) sheet what kind of a finish are you looking for? Are you looking to knock the burr and machine marks off or looking for a polish job like aluminum? I don't have much experience with sheet steel. I am not worried about the areas that will be welded since the burr will melt into the weld. I am working on another project but will soon be making the wing steel parts. Also, what methods are you guys using to debur the steel? Thanks.

Hi Joe, I use a single cut, smooth file to remove all machine marks and burrs from steel edges. This leaves a nice smooth edge. If you use a scotchbrite wheel, don't use the same one for aluminum and steel, or you could get cross contamination corrosion.

Ditto what Eric said - keep your files, etc. separate too for the same reason.
