  • EarthX Battery Box Modification

I decided to mount my EarthX ETX900 battery on the lower right of the firewall, but the location didn’t lend itself to the battery box (BB-CU)I bought from EarthX. To use this box you have to have almost a parallel pull straight up from the top since the battery fits so snug and the motor mount is in the way. I went online to find something else that would work and found some on the Van’s forums, but nothing I liked. I thought about it a bit, trying to come up with a solution and this is what I came up with using the existing box.

I split the box at an angle that somewhat matches the engine mount tube where I want the battery. I riveted some AL angle to the sides and used 10-32 nutplates for the AN3 bolts. Smaller fasteners would work just fine but I like having a hex head vs having to fuss with a phillips. I fit the box in place on the firewall and drilled all the mounting holes before I cut anything so the fit would still be very snug. Once it was all sorted I took a dremel tool with a thin cutoff wheel and split the sides off from the body. I polished off the edges, bolted the sides on the firewall and then put in the battery. It works really well and I have excellent access to take the battery in and out when needed. Hope this helps somebody…always more than one way to skin a cat!

Nice approach...looks like good access around the engine mount.
