  • Making rudder pedal cables

For the cables between the front and rear rudder pedals...is the length of the cable simply the distance between the lower pivot tube centers on the floor. If not, how does one come up with a length? Thanks!

You are on the right track, but you need to subtract the length of the links that attach the cables to the rudder pedals. Without measuring mine, I'm guessing it'll be ~3/4" to 1" shorter than the pivot point length. If you possess the nicopress tool it might be easiest to crimp one end, square up the rudder pedals, and then crimp the other end.

Thanks, kinda what I had in mind. Always appreciate more brainpower and perspective from the group!

Look for one of these in your local hardware store. It seems like they call it a wire rope clip, or clamp or stop. It will allow you to install the cable with a thimble and size up the assembly with the actual cable.

Another way is to use some .032 or so safety wire. Straighten the safety wire out (with one end in a vice and the other clamped to your vice crips and whack it with your dead blow hammer) then fabricate a pattern by rigging everything up with it. The bends in the safety wire around each terminal end defines things very clearly. Then carefully remove the pattern and fabricate the cable on the bench.
