    Bearhawk 4? or 5? with IO540-D4A5

That IO-540 can be bumped up in HP. Lycon's CNC port and polish adds 5 HP/cylinder. Cold air induction adds another 15-20. Just my opinion, I would go with the 5. The extra width is really nice, it is a fill 4 seats with big people haul a ton of gear plane.

Oil Cooler location for an IO540

Scratch built fuselage and engine mount, but done to plans. Engine modified from an O-540B4B5 out of a Cherokee 235. It was very tight, only one spot worked.

    Engine port confusion

If aircraft specialty said you can just slip a hose over the threads and clamp it, then I am sure it okay. There isn't any pressure involved and saves buying another fitting. Don't forget to put a 1/4" hole in the tube within the engine compartment. Without it, if the breather outlet freezes in...

    Riveting top skin last?

The original 4-place wing kits came with the bottom skin totally riveted and you riveted down the top skin after completing the interior work. That indicates to me that there is no issue with completing the bottom skin installation first.

Oil Cooler location for an IO540

I dont think you need that large a cooler. I say that because that is what I installed with a 4" duct and I have run all summer with the inline butterfly set at 75%. The vernatherm controls the oil temp at 180deg and hasn't exceeded that. In winter I set it at 60%. I have cold air induction...

    C21 Arrived

Tanks come installed now? That would have saved me a ton of time messing figuring out the length of the straps and installing them. You are going to miss out on a lot of fun.

Help with estimating approximate weights of various factory Patrol parts

The weight of a completed Patrol is around 1200 pounds so you shouldn't be anywhere near the 2000 pound flat rate qoute.

    A Pilots and Paws Trip

Back in January I joined the Pilots and Paws organization that puts dogs needing transport together with pilots willing to donate time and fuel. I love dogs and it is a great opportunity to get out and fly to new places. Yesterday was my second trip transporting dogs. A family in Gunnison, CO...

    More FlightTesting

Last winter I completed all the Phase 1 flight testing cards before I installed VGs. The only flight tests I redid after installation were the full stall series and landing and takeoff distances which all definitely imrpoved. I have wondered how the VGs might impact other speeds such as Vx, Vy...

    MGL vs GRT vs Dynon?

Total cost for my Garmin system was $32000. To make it hard IFR I would have installed a Nav/Com instead of a Com for an additional $3000.

    100 hrs

I've reached 100 hours on my hobbs meter, 106 hours logged in less than 10 months from first flight. This has been an amazingly trouble free airplane. I am still so impressed with the performance. I can't imagine wanting anything different.

    Engine Preheat Systems

    Trip to Portland, OR

Having a flying Bearhawk has made a quantum shift in travel for us. Both our daughters live on the west coast. One in LA and the other in Portland with her husband and our two grandsons. Over the last twenty years we have made many trips either by commercial airline or driving. The drive is 1130...

    Repairman Certificate

I applied for my repairman certificate in April. The week before Oshkosh I got an email from Lonnie with the Salt Lake FSDO saying he would be on vacation for two weeks but when he got back he would work on my application. The Tuesday after Oshkosh he contacted me again and said my application...
