BH5--- Illinois then to Brazil

A little behind here, but wanted to let everyone know we took delivery of our BH5 quickbuild kit mid-August of 2021. We don't plan to set any speed records for our build time!! Our plan is to have this plane on straight floats flying for missions in Brazil (www.amazonsaltandlight.org).

I would be interested to know details of the build as they occur that will suit the flying mission, per se. Not being built for pleasure cruising or other elective pursuits should refine the process in a way that we don’t see often in the homebuilt community.

If you are planning any ‘work parties’ for high man-hour tasks on the build I would like to hear about them. I am about 2.5 hours away from Bloomington.

Cheers, Lew

We're still plugging away (well....they are because I'm in Brazil :)). Some recent progress: brake lines and pedals installed; fuel selector and lines completed to wing tanks; doors, latches, and window installed; elevators, horizontal stabilizers, and rudder fabric covered; control cables run to end points; engine and nose bowl installed. We've went with a new Lycoming IO-540. This plane will most likely be on straight floats so we are looking hard at the reversible MT. I've got some experience on floats and I dream about having "brakes" and also being able to start the engine and to run through the checklists before it's getting turned into the wind and the current is shoving you towards the jungle shore!
