Finished Patrol
I read a post tonight that touched on planning for firewall items, and would like to ask a few questions. In that post, one builder welded tabs to the fuselage like where the firewall attaches, to mount an oil cooler.
In fact, yesterday I moved my parking brake valve off the firewall, and mounted it under the floor because due to concerns about possible future interference with who know what.
I would first like to discuss the Oil Cooler. Specifically, how can I avoid placing the oil cooler on the firewall, or attaching it to the rear engine baffling. I took this photo of Bob's Patrol at Oshkosh. I just don't know how its mounted. I am skeptical of the idea that its mounted (hanging) from the baffling. I envision that engine vibration plus the weight of the oil cooler will result in failure of the baffling in a very short time period. So I assume its mounted in a more robust way.
I will have more questions to follow, but for now.......
