Flap Center Gusset Rivets

Mark Dickens

Companion QB
Now that I am focused on getting the ailerons and flaps fitted to the wings, I am spending more quality time with Bob's drawings and to my surprise the center gusset on the flaps is supposed to be riveted with 1/8" rivets, yet they were drilled and dimpled for 3/32" rivets by the factory on my QB...anyone else notice this? I guess I'll have to replace those rivets that I've installed in those gussets

I would talk with Bob before you remove the rivets. It may be important or it may not be. He may have worked out something specific for the factory a long time ago. Or it may be that they built them wrong. But it's worth checking.

I plan to go ahead and replace them since I have the top gussets off anyway. I posted this to give a heads up to others that may not notice and I do plan to ask Virgil et al about this in case the factory is still making them this way. My flaps apparently predate the factory pre-drilling the bracket holes so who know what they're doing now?

That section is installed with a combination of 1/8in and 3/32 rivets. The plates come factory riveted now, as we fit all flight controls before shipping.
