O360 Mixture control Bearhawk 4

I purchased this plane and I'm not the builder so I want to know if the mixture control "Full Rich" all the way in should shut the engine off at idele by pulling it back just over an inch of travel? Doesn't seem like much range of travel. If it is too short travel range, what needs to be adjusted?
Thanks

No, the engine should not be shutting off when you pull the mixture back one inch from full rich.

I would first confirm that the knob travel is matching the lever travel. This may require two people and may require disconnecting the linkage at the front end.

The good news is that this portion of the plane is very typical and any A&P who has ever worked on piston/carb planes would recognize all of the parts and know what to check.

The cable setup is the first thing to check and two people makes it easier. Have someone move the mixture control on the panel while you watch what is happening at the carburetor end. You want the mixture lever on the carburetor to be at the end of its travel in the rich direction when the knob pushed in (almost) all the way. The almost part ensures that the lever is the limit not the knob/cable. The red arrow on the attached picture points at the mixture lever.
