  • Seat Caddy

I've been working on a 3D printable storage seat caddy for under the front seats of the Bearhawk 4. This shows the most recent prototype at 170mm depth. It has now been extended to 200mm depth without interfering with the rear seats pax feet, or the underside of the seat. I've also raised the sill height to lessen the chance of anything falling out, and reduced the width of the opening. The most recent one has the opening offset towards the outside wall of the cockpit, to reduce the chance of interference with the control stick. It installs and removes very easily, and is easy to access. Perfect for items such as bug spray, sunscreen, sandwiches etc, and it also caters for larger items such as windshield cleaner.

I think this would be a great candidate for a carbon fiber layup over a 3d-printed mold!

I've done several flights with it installed now and it's working well. Yesterday I had a backseat passenger, and there's ample foot clearance - more than I anticipated. Current depth (front to rear) is 200mm but I'm going to extend it to 250mm which will accommodate a can of windshield cleaner.....aka lemon Pledge, and the fuel drain tube.

I've printed the current ones with 4mm thickness and they're pretty strong, also tucked well out of the way so they should hold up well. The slots greatly reduce any warping while printing. I'm also trialling one with 3 x 1" rails running front to back to keep stuff organised.

          Bearhawk 4-place Seat Caddy

I've just uploaded this design to Printables HERE.

This is a storage caddy designed to fit under the front right seat of a Bearhawk 4 place aircraft. I have not tested the design on other models of Bearhawk. In order to get a proper fit, you cannot have any permanent items such as an autopilot under that seat. You can print a mirror image to make one that fits the right seat.

There are several files attached so you can choose the complete box and print it yourself, or alternatively choose the one that is already cut into two for optimal printing. You will also need to print two of the tube grips.

To install in the aircraft, first remove the front seat and attach both tube grips into position as per the photos. Then place the caddy into position for a test fit to check correct fit, and clearances. The gluing needs to be done in place for a good fit.

Next remove the caddy slightly, apply glue, and then push the parts together. I used plumbers plastic pipe cement, with a small amount of CA (superglue) to quickly set in place.

I'm working on a longer version that prints in 3 pieces, but still refining the final version. Will post here when finished.
