Guys,
I was working on my cap strip order today and found a mistake I made when making my center ribs. I made each rib to length, all of the ribs are a 1/8 short on the rear to accommodate the full length cap strip on the rear spar and the front is either full length, 1/8, or 1/4 short depending on where it sits on the front spar. So far so good...
Well today I found my mistake, I made the #2 center rib 1/8 too short because I mis-read the plans (like that never happens) and falsely assumed the rear cap-strips would be doubled up at the root, I don't know what I was thinking as it is crystal clear now as I look at the plans again....anyway, this is the only rib that is too short (two of them). So I figure I have 3 possible fixes:
1: Make a new rib(s) to the correct size.
2: Double up the vertical shim for this position, like what we do when you have a 1/4 cap on one side and a 1/8 on the other, the exception would be it would extend over both top and bottom caps.
3: Make the rear cap strips extend all the way to the root (which I obviously thought was the case in the first place).
I am a HUGE fan of solution #2, with #3 my second choice....I really, REALLY don't want to make two new ribs....
What do you guys think? How does one get a engineering variance?
Please Advise on how to proceed...
Thanks guys!
Ps....lets all vote for #2!
