  • Basic fuselage weight

    Hey gang,

Yesterday I went through the plans and accounted for each tube in the basic fuselage and captured it in a spreadsheet (there's a lot of tubes!). Comparing the tubes from the tubing list and the weights called out in the ACS catalog, it looks like the tubing adds up to about 109 pounds. Does that sound about right for those who have gotten that far? Obviously it'll be a little heavier after welding, but just making sure I've got it about right.

    Thanks!
    Chris

I don't have a good answer but I had to lift my basic fuselage by myself a couple times and I would have estimated 120 pounds.

Whee, did you weld up your own fuse, or do you have a QB kit?

I bought one that was made from the VR3 kit. At the time I lifted it all it consisted of was the tubing from VR3.

Cool. I've heard good things about that kit.

                Chris,

Thanks for sharing your spreadsheet with us. It gives guidance and ideas to some of us more challenged and less experienced builders.

Sorry for the OT but, are those all the tubes needed for fuselage build up?
I'm looking for how many feet from each measure I need to buy.
                Thanks

No problem, it applies Yes, those are the footage values that I calculated after going through each tube on the plans for the fuselage build up. None for seats, wing steel, and other small things. Just the basic fuselage. I haven't bought any tubing yet, so I'm going to have to rely on someone else's list.

There's a reference to another steel order on Eric Newton's site via Wayne Massey:
