  • Sealant for Brake Master Cylinder Fittings

The AN fittings for the fuel lines do not need any sealant as they are self sealing. Is this true even for the NPT fittings for the brake lines and the master cylinders? In my eagerness I fitted the NPT - AN adapters to the master cylinders without sealants and not sure if I should be disassembling these and reassemble with sealant.

Found the answer in an EAA homebuilder video and the van's forums. Bought the permatex aviation form-a-gasket from the local napa store.

I used Permatex 14H (80632) for sealing my NPT fittings into my calipers.

I didn't use anything, apart from some 50 cent plumbers tape where the threaded fittings go into the callipers and master cylinders (being careful not to get any near the line).

You could also use the Loctite 565 liquid thread sealant, as used in the fuel system.

310 hours later, not a drop has leaked out.
