  • Engine mount tubing sizes

I'm ready to order the tubing to make my engine mount and am planing to use the same size tubing as what I cut of the Cessna mount. I wanted to compare that with the tubing sizes recommended by Bob but I can't find any recommendations.

You guys that built your own mounts, what sizes of tubing did you use? Mark M, what tubing did you use for your 520 mount?

    I'm going to have a 4-point mount.

    The Cessna mount tubes:
Tubes going to the upper 2 firewall bushings appear to be 3/4 x 0.065.
Tubes going to the bottom 2 firewall bushings appear to be 7/8 x 0.065.

The Bearhawk Book shows 3/4 x .058 for the 540 mount, 5/8 x .049 for the 360 mount. Does that help?

Tell us more about the Bearhawk Book. I am scratch building. Is this an assembly manual that Mark provides with a kit?

It's a bound book of past Beartracks newsletters that came with my plans (#991). 104 pages, covers building the wings, fuel tanks, wing struts, fuselage, landing gear, motor mount, doors, floor boards, windshield, seatbelts, cowl, fabric, seats, brakes, paint W&B, engine, tailwheel, and a few other stories and odds and ends. Which plans number do you have?

I'll have to measure it.... I bought an O470 mount from Mark Goldberg.... Couldn't make it fit my mounts...cut it apart....bought the same tubing as the Avipro mount.... I'm using a combination of bed mount and dynafocal. Standard TSIO520WB motor mount legs for the bed mount and two upper dynafocal motor mounts from an IO520C. I haven't finished the upper mount yet. Here's a pic of the engine in its bed mount and a potion of the upper .......I think it was a Beech twin motor mount.
Here's a pic without the upper mount....mock up.

No worries Mark. I'm going to just use what Cessna did. Ordered the tubing today and should be building the mount next week.
