  • Control Cable Fairleads

Hey All... I have a question about the fairlead sizes for the control cables. First, a little background: I have two types, the ones that have the 1/2 inch diameter hole and the ones that have the 1/4 inch hole. The both fit in a 7/8ths .058 piece of tubing, one fits into a piece 1/2 in long, the other 3/4 in long. In researching the application of fairleads in general I haven't found anything that refers to a standard. In other words, in a particular application, use "X" type fairlead, but in this application use the "Y" fairlead. Looking through the hundreds of Bearhawk construction pictures I have I see the sizes seems to be mixed. Some builders will use one size in a particular spot, another builder will use the other size in that same spot. So, is there any thinking behind what size someone would use? Does it matter? Thanks...

    Paul,
On my Pacer, Piper used 1/2" for the rudder cables. The 1/4" are used in the overhead for the aileron and flap cables. I'd guess the 1/4" fairleads better contain the cable as it passes through the fabric to the wing.
