  • To Bravo or not to Bravo, that is the question.

As you may have seen in the Bravo announcement thread, I was about to cut my first piece of aluminium on my scratch build 4 place when the announcement of the Bravo came out. Since then, I've been waiting to see what I will do.

The question I have for the group is what would you do if you were in my shoes?
I'm anxious to get my build started but I do see the advantages of the Bravo. Would you:

    A) wait for the Bravo plans to be available in a few months and delay the build
    B) build the original 4 place with the profiled tail
    C) something else I haven't thought of

    I much appreciate the input

Start working on something that remains unchanged.

      Eric,
If I were in your shoes, wanting to do a scratch build, I'd start on the fuselage. Probably order the pre-cut tubing kit, from Mark. That pre-cut kit is impressive!

I agree. Start with the fuselage. You will have plenty to work on until the plans are finalized. I already have ribs, spars, flaps, ailerons, and wing steel complete and, if it weren't for the word of wisdom from my better half, I would have scrapped all that to go with the Bravo.

I agree with what everyone else is saying; start with the fuselage.

I am going to agree here. So far as I can tell the fuselage is the same. You will have plenty of time to add in the new changes. Some of them are already incorporated in the design. We have about half in our scratch build. So I think you will be able to add everything. Just work on the wings and tail feathers later.

The only thing I would add is just confirm with someone that there is no change in the fuselage and if not that will give you plenty to do!

There are some minor changes on the Bravo fuselage. The top tube on the window openings is lower. The wing formers are a little different. There's some changes in the tail for the tail wheel stinger. That's a few I can think of...

OK, good to know. Well, that should still leave plenty to work on for a few months!

The door opening is constructed differently as well.

Wayne, did that top tube being lower seem to interfere with visibility at all? I didn't think about that and I'm 6'3".

Sounds like there are additional changes in the fuselage to the point I don't feel comfortable starting without having all the data yet. I guess I'm going to wait for the plans to be released. I've waited 10 years to start a project, a few more months won't kill me... I hope.

                      Thanks for the replies everyone.

It's not enough of a change to make any noticeable change in visibility. You won't be able to tell any difference in the side view between the Alpha or Bravo. It's just enough to allow a little more clearance when opening the window due to the change in airfoil camber. I don't remember the exact number but it's not much (fractions)...
