  • Welding up O360 motor mount

It seems it may be easier to fabricate an O360 engine mount with just and empty engine core, but is it possible to align it properly with the engine mounted to an engine ring. I'm not sure if I will purchase a pre-made mount or fab myself. I have a line on a very reasonable engine ring but don't want to purchase if it's not feasible. I have an O360 already but doubt I will find a case anywhere

I fabricated an engine mount for an IO540. I did have a mounting ring that was salvaged from something. The engine was complete but without accessories.

With a lead that I got from Russ Erb's video, I was able to find drawings for the engine mounts as installed. From those drawings, I machined aluminum substitutes for the rubber mounts.

The next step was to build a stand for the engine so I could align the engine and fuselage.

I chose to build all new mounting ring. But the mounts for this engine are fairly simple to reproduce. With the engine and fuselage aligned, building the mount was fairly simple job of cut, cope and weld.

The end result, with the rubber mounts bolted right up. Without the drawings for the compressed mounts, I could not have done the job.
